McLaren's surprise 2024 livery reveal
McLaren are the first out the gates with their livery for the 2024 season
On the 15th of January McLaren had a complete social media blackout with all their prior posts having been deleted and what seemed to be a complete social media overhaul to the naked eye.
Their profile pictures and banner on Twitter and Instagram had been changed to indicate to their fanbase that something was about to happen.
And something did indeed happen.
A surprise reveal
The next day on the 16th of January McLaren decided to randomly post pictures of the 2024 livery that would be displayed in all its glory on the MCL38. Not the 2024 car, the date for that has still yet to be revealed.
They’ve taken a departure from the blue that has been on the MCL chassis since 2018.
The stripped Orange to Black pattern that goes across the entire chassis of the car seems to be very reminiscent of the 2012 Marussia MR01 with it’s stripped red and black livery. With the majority of the reception for the livery seeming to be positive.
With Mclaren’s own Oscar Piastri expressing his amusement for the livery and excitement for the season ahead .
“The 2024 livery looks really cool and I'm looking forward to racing in the iconic colours of McLaren for a second season. I made some special memories with the team in my rookie year, securing two podiums and a Sprint win.”
Statement of intent
With the social media overhaul came the reiteration of what seems to be the teams slogan for this season’s campaign “Whatever it takes”.
McLaren seems to be in a transition phase in regards to their racing mindset being a prominent aspect in their brand and ethos for the 2024 campaign with them doing “whatever it takes” to maximise the most amount of potential they can from the team.
McLaren Principal Andreas Stella that development of this years car relative to last years at the beginning of the season is “a world away” from the situation they found themselves to be in last year. Speaking volumes of the progress they’ve made in a span of a year.
In addition, with the livery being revealed so early on, it’s an indication that the MCL38 will have some drastic changes to it in an attempt to catch up to Red Bull as McLaren will dedicate a full reveal to the chassis the MCL38. The date has yet to be revealed.
It’s a fair warning to it’s competitors.
